Chiropractic Care

Adjusting roomMost people think chiropractors are musculoskeletal doctors. Chiropractors are nervous system doctors who seek to ensure that the brain, the spinal cord, and the nerves coming from the cord to the organs, tissues, muscles, and cells are functioning optimally. And we want to make sure they’re receiving messages back from those organs, muscles, tissues, and cells, and communicating with the brain.

When the vertebrae go out of alignment they put pressure on those nerves. That creates dysfunction in that nerve. The job of a chiropractor is to correct that misalignment allowing that nerve to function at its highest potential.

Common Issues We See

While some patients see us for wellness care, most come in for the following:

  • Back pain
  • Headaches
  • Leg pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain

What many people notice after they start getting adjusted is how much better they feel overall. A positive “side effect” is that often, other problems begin to resolve. For example, patients may notice that their digestive issues have gone away even though that wasn’t the issue they sought our help with.

The Body’s Master Controller

You may wonder how chiropractic care could help with a condition such as acid reflux. It’s important to know that the brain and spinal cord control every function in your body. Not just musculoskeletal function, but the brain and spinal cord control digestion, your heart rate, breathing, immune system—everything. So when the nerves are coming out from the spinal column there’s one nerve root, which splits into two systems: automatic control (organ function) and sensory (muscle movement and pain).

When the bone goes out of alignment it puts pressure on that nerve root before it splits. So that will affect both systems. People usually don’t pay attention to other systems like acid reflux when they have low back pain. They also may experience other problems like painful periods or chronic constipation.

There are many benefits of chiropractic care. In addition to relieving pain, chiropractic can help to improve digestion, enhance sleep, boost the immune system, increase energy levels, and more.

Our Techniques

We use the following methods of adjusting:

  • Activator Methods® – This instrument-assisted technique is ideal for young children or seniors. It provides a quick, low-force impulse at particular points.
  • Diversified – A commonly used manual adjusting technique, Diversified uses precise hands-on thrusts to align the spine and restore proper movement.
  • Thompson Drop – This technique employs a segmental drop table to enhance the motion force used in the area that requires adjusting.
  • Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) – This gentle technique helps to successfully reduce pain.
  • Webster – Webster is an analysis that’s used to determine the pelvis and its relationships with the uterus and its attachment. If the pelvis is out of alignment the Webster Technique guides the chiropractor on where to adjust to help balance that uterus so the ligaments that are holding the uterus to the pelvis are not unbalanced. They are able to stretch and contract equally so that the baby can move around.
